lending a hand to Mission Australia this Christmas

Posted on by .

Does your family celebrate together on Christmas Day? How many presents get opened? How much food is eaten? How many bottles of wine consumed?

If you answered yes, lots, lots and heaps to the above questions, then how would you like to lend a hand to those who don’t have as much to celebrate on Christmas day? You would? Great. Today, Bella and I lent a hand to Mission Australia’s Christmas Lunch in the Park. It was easy and you can too. Just read on.

Mission Australia’s, “Christmas Lunch in the Park” is Australia’s biggest Christmas Day charity event. And now in it’s 38th year, it has it’s very own website where YOU can share the gift of giving with the click of a mouse.

Visit https://www.missionaustralia.com.au/christmaslunch and you can buy one of the 3,000-plus presents that will be handed out at Christmas Lunch in the Park (#CLIP2013), held in Wellington Square Park in East Perth.

It felt great to give something back especially when Bella and I receive so much between us at Christmas.

Mission Australia State Director Melissa Perry said all contributions will help cover the cost of making Christmas Day a very special one for up to 2,000 people who might be isolated, lonely or down on their luck. Melissa also extended an invite to anyone who may not have family and friends around them on Christmas Day to come along and share in this fantastic event.

“Please come and join us for some great food, entertainment and companionship. A free shuttle bus will operate between the Perth Bus Station and Wellington Square Park from 9.30am.”

I encourage everyone who reads this blog to buy a present and put a smile on the face of someone less fortunate this Christmas.

This year’s ‘face’ of “Christmas Lunch in the Park”, is single mother Shannon Martin from High Wycombe who has been bringing her three boys to the event for the past three years.

“Christmas Lunch in the Park is my gift to my boys to make sure they have a wonderful day and experience the joy of Christmas Day,” Shannon said.

“It’s great to be able to share the day with so many different people and see the smiles on all the kids’ faces when Santa arrives. It’s a very special day for everyone.”
